Caffeine-free moringa leaf tea, packed loose so you taste the leaf rather than the dust. Moringa tea is the gentlest way to discover Moringa oleifera: a mild, grassy, slightly sweet infusion that sits somewhere between a green tea and a fresh garden herb, with none of the caffeine and none of the bitterness of over-processed leaf. If you are new to moringa, this is where most people start.
What to look for in moringa tea
Look at the colour. Good moringa leaf is a deep, living green. A dull khaki or yellow-brown tea has usually been dried with too much heat or stored too long in light. Ours is dried gently and packed in a resealable pouch to keep the leaf fresh.
Loose leaf also gives you control: you can see the quality of the leaf, adjust the strength cup by cup, and steep the same leaves a second time.
How to brew it
Use one heaped teaspoon of loose leaf per cup. Heat water to just off the boil, around 80 to 85°C. Boiling water scorches the leaf and pulls out a harsh, hay-like edge, so let the kettle stand for a minute before you pour.
Steep for three to five minutes. Three gives you a light, bright cup; five gives you something fuller. Moringa does not turn bitter the way black tea does, but it does get grassy, so start short and work up until you find your steep.
Drink it as it comes, or soften it with a slice of lemon, a little honey or fresh ginger. It is excellent iced: brew it double-strength, let it cool and pour it over ice with mint. Because there is no caffeine, you can drink it in the evening without it costing you sleep.
Frequently asked questions
Does moringa tea contain caffeine?
No. Moringa is not a true tea and contains no caffeine. That makes it a practical evening drink and a simple swap if you are cutting back on coffee.
What does moringa tea taste like?
Mild, grassy and a little earthy, with a clean finish. Most people compare it to a light green tea or a very gentle matcha.
How often can I drink it?
One to three cups a day suits most people. If you are pregnant, nursing or taking medication, speak with your healthcare professional first, as you would before adding any new herb to your routine.
Tea or powder: which should I buy?
Tea if you want a ritual and a gentle introduction to the taste. Powder if you want to control the serving size and add moringa to food as well as drinks. Many customers keep both: tea for the evening, powder for the morning smoothie.
